ANITA MUNICIPAL UTILITIES
ELECTRIC SERVICES AVAILABLE OVERVIEW

Anita Municipal Utilities (AMU) is a distribution utility. Electricity is purchased wholesale and distributed to their customers at 4,160 volts then finally stepped down to 120/240 volts before final delivery. A series of 5 generators are maintained both to provide electricity in emergencies and to allow AMU to receive much lower wholesale rates. As AMU is a not-for-profit entity these savings translate into lower rates for their customers.
Wholesale power for AMU is provided from a combination of sources designed to keep costs as low as possible. Most of their electricity comes from the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) which maintains a series of hydro-electric generating stations along the Missouri River. The balance of their requirements through December 2003 is supplied by MidAmerican Energy Company (MEC) . A new 5-year agreement with AmerenEnergy will provide this supplemental power beginning in January 2004. All power is delivered to AMU at 34,500 volts through transmissions lines owned by Interstate Power and Light Company and operated by the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO). AMU maintains its own substation to convert the 34,500 volt power down to 4,160 volts used by their distribution system.
AMU purchases wholesale power through a group of cities known as the Resale Power Group of Iowa (RPGI). Power is purchased at an “interruptible” rate meaning that AMU must stop taking power if loads go high enough to cause problems to their supplier. Power purchased in this manner comes at a substantial discount as long as enough generation is maintained to pull the City load during peak times.
Standard single phase residential electric service is provided at 120/240 volt, 200 amps installed and maintained to the point of metering. For new homes and major remodels this is an underground service if possible.

ANITA MUNICIPAL UTILITIES
WATER SERVICES AVAILABLE OVERVIEW

Anita Municipal Utilities (AMU) provides water service to the residents of Anita from 3 wells located near the Anita Schools. Treatment includes chlorination and the addition of fluoride as well as a sequestering agent. The system of 4, 6 and 8 inch mains are also used to provide fire protection and a water station where farmers can purchase water.
The standard residential service connection consists of a 3/4” copper line from the main to the meter. Standard meter is a 3/4’ X 5/8” service meter. New customers must install their own service line from the main to the meter but AMU then maintains the line from main to curb stop. Unusual service requests may require an aid in construction.

EVEN-PAY AND AUTO-DEBIT OPTIONS

Anita Municipal Utilities (AMU) offers their customers several payment options. For those who have a hard time making payments during regular office hours, AMU maintains a drop box next to the front door where payments may be left at any time. They also offer an “auto-debit” program where payments may be deducted from a customers bank balance automatically on the 10th of each month. At present they can only do this for customers who bank at either Rolling Hills Bank & Trust or Union National Bank. For customers who like to even out their utility bills AMU also offers an “even-pay” program (known elsewhere as Budget Billing or Level Payment).
