The original building was built in 1931 by the Christian Science Church. The exterior of the building is made of rocks and stones collected from Anita area farms. The interior has beamed, vaulted ceilings, and oak plank, pegged floors and green stained glass rounded arch windows. In 1963 the Christian Science Church donated the building to the city of Anita to be used solely as a public library. |

Through the generosity of the Henneberg-Roots Foundation, the Anita community here and away, and several grants, a 3300 sq. ft. addition to the original 1076 sq. ft. library was dedicated in November of 1999; along with a 4100 sq. ft. community center in the lower level.
Keeping faithful to the original structure was a priority in the design of the addition. Rocks native to the Anita area were donated and delivered by the handfuls, bucketfuls, pick-up and dump truck loads. One local family donated a 100 year old rock pile that had been started by their grandfather. The end result is a beautiful building inside and out, that is an integral part of our community. |
