| The Anita Development Corporation was organized in 1964 for the purpose of promoting the economic development and the general welfare of the City of Anita and the surrounding area. Past projects of the Anita Development Corporation have had great impact on the community. In 1964 Anita Development purchased approximately 100 acres along the southwest corporate limits of Anita. By the end of 1965 those 100 acres had become The Anita Municipal Airport, the Colonial Manor Nursing Home and the beautiful Crestwood Hills Golf Course. An exciting future project is a new housing development that is underway. We also have one lot available in the Anita Industrial Park. | |

2004 was another busy and successful year for the corporation. Several projects we had been working on were completed and several other projects that we are very excited about are being worked on. Listed below is a summary of some of the activities we participated in during the year: Tire Company: Construction on this 60,000 square foot building was completed and the tire plant began production in October. The building is a very welcome addition to our community as it is currently providing 29 jobs with plans for further expansion in the future. This will provide a huge boost to our local economy. Powder Painting: We acquired ownership of a building in our industrial park in order to assist a powder painting business in locating there. The business is now operating on a part time basis with plans to go to full time in the near future. Housing Development: We continue to work to assist in developing a 94 acre tract in the city limits. In 2003, we worked with the city to extend sewer into the tract. We will continue to work in 2005 to finalize platting of this property with a goal of having lots available by the end of 2005. Dime Store Building: This building on Main Street was purchased by a local group 3 years ago. It has now been purchased by the development corp. and leased to a tenant who is custom building wood furniture and accessories. Day Care: We worked closely with the Anita School District and were successful in getting full time day care services established in 2004. This is located in the elementary school and will provide a needed service while also keeping children in our community which will benefit our school. We invested $3,000 in this project to help the day care meet state requirements. The Weather Vane: The development corporation acquired this building(former Green Door Diner) on Main Street in 2004 and with much volunteer help was able to restore this structure. It has been leased and currently serves soup and sandwich lunches as well as selling consignments and collectibles. It is a very attractive building and we encourage everyone to stop in and take a look. Gas Station: We played a role in bringing 24 hour gas and diesel to Main Street. This helped meet a need as no diesel fuel was available prior to this. We are proud of our accomplishments in 2004 and will continue to work hard to improve our community in 2005. We continue to have an excellent working relationship with the City of Anita and also with Cass Atlantic Development Corp. | |
Anita Industrial Park | |
![]() ![]() | The Anita Industrial Park is located on the northeast side of town along Hwy 148. There are 4 businesses currently located in the park. There is still one lot available; Lot 3 (.98 acres) is for sale. The area is zoned light industrial and water, sewer, electric and gas services are all in place. All new construction is eligible for the Tax Abatement program through the City of Anita. The Anita Municipal Utilities rates and programs offer additional incentives to locate here. New Housing Development | |
| The Anita Development corporation has begun the process for a new housing development within the city limits of Anita. Located on the western edge of town, many lots will have excellent views of the Crestwood Hills Golf Course to the south and a large pond to the west. Current plans for the 93 acre tract call for large lots of approximately 1/2 acre in size. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
